Opening shots An opening shot is what the audience first sees in a film, it is how the film begins. It is important for a film to have a strong opening shot because it what will initially hook the audience into watching.  To create an effective opening shot, it is important to engage the audience with the first thing that they see on the screen and hook them for the rest of the film, for example an opening shot could include a shot of a setting e.g. a building; because this is a way in which a film can set the scene and establish where the film is set for the audience.
