Re-Edit

Re-Edit
One of the key stages of creating our short film is how we received target audience feedback to be able to re- edit the penultimate version of our film to be able to create a final product that we were both happy with as well as appeal to the audience that it is specified for. In this case we established our audience and were able to gain their opinions on the first edit of the film and using their ideas and preferences we were able to tweak scenes and edit clips to adjust to the liking of the audience.

Change 1
When we received our target audience feedback, the first change we decided was crucial to make was changes to the scene in the film where the characters are seen to be eating dinner. For example we decided instead of having one continuous shot clip, we decided to create a mix of shots in one scene which depict the different emotions of the characters on either side of the table. For example, the first edit included this scene in a continuous medium long shot which viewed the whole table but not so much the characters emotions on their faces. So we decided to use a recording which was filmed from mid shots of two sides of the table which we were able to show the audience the growing tension on both sides of the table from Blake and Maddie. The mix of mid and close up shots meant the emotions were now visible and the audience can establish the body language and facial features of all three characters in the scene.

Change 2
After that, the second change that we decided to make in the edit was the scene just after the dinner scene where we see Blake pacing back and forth the living room in anger. From our feedback we felt as though the scene could be made more powerful and create a bigger impact if we added an audio track in the background. The song that I found to be fitting towards the situation was the song Coaster by Khalid because I felt that the tone of the song, alongside the actual lyrics fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the scene. The background audio is also a method of keeping the audience engaged with the film because during a period where there is one character having a long speech, they can loose interest so music can help engage them back to the film as it can set a mood.

Change 3
The third change that we decided was necessary to make was to the scene where Maddie and Amber are seen to be packing up their things getting ready to leave the apartment. During our first edit these scene was silent as there was  no speech or music in the background so the feedback was based on making this scene more interesting to watch.  We decided to add background music to this scene like the others to keep the audience engaged with the film because they could of found the scene boring before and lost attention.

Change 4
The fourth and final change that we decided to make to create the final edit of our short film, was to the final end card which was the credits. The first edit, Georgia decided to create our credits that faded out into different cards but we didn't feel it was appropriate to the normal conventions of film making and we then decided to edit these credits and create rolling credits in a format which is much like we see in many films that we watch today. The rolling credits made our film end much more professionally and it looks less cluttered than before.
